Boot Problems with 750

$

I'm hopping someone can help me I have a Gigabyte Z170x-Gaming G1 Motherboard with a Intel 750 Series SSD(SSDPE2MW400G4R5).
The Intel 750 SSD is connected on the GC-M2-U2-MiniSAS card that came with the Motherboard and the cable that came with the drive.

When I boot from a complete power off I get the error "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"
hitting any key just gives the same error.
If from this screen a perform a CTRL+ALT+DEL   then the computer will boot up without any problems.

If from power off state I boot and try the F12 for Boot Menu  it has the drive listed and when I select it I get the same result

The computer will restart without problems unless I go to a power off state it works fine

I'm using the F4 firmware for the Gigabyte motherboard
I'm using the  8EV10171 firmware for the Intel SSD?

Do you have any suggestions on what I can try and or do
Thanks in advance

Hi guys,
I'm having some issues with the 750 ssd and the hdd activity led on my case. For some reason there is NO activity led, though the system works just fine with no crushes, errors,  etc. By "No activity led" I mean, it just semi blinks for one or two times during boot and never blinks again, whatever I do (games, installing apps, running intel optimizer, etc). Have tried all the usual and possible things to check but no luck. *The led on my case works fine for the record.
My specs are :

Asus Rampage V Extreme/ 3.1 usb revision
Intel core i7 5820K @ 3,6Ghz
Corsair dominator 16GB DDR4 @ 3000Mhz

Intel 750 ssd (pcie version, Connected on PCI e 3.0 x8, so works x4) **Latest Firmware with Toolbox 3.3.1/ latest driver 1.2.0.1002
MSI 290x Lighting
Running Windows 10 Pro x64 fully updated (no option here )

Tried both with CSM on and off, no difference

Intel SSD 730 frequent freeze/hang Win 8.1 & 10

I've endured this issue for weeks, and despite trying everything under the sun I can't seem to nail down what the problem is. My machine will consistently hit 100% disk utilization - even though nothing in Task Manager indicates much of a load on the drive - and freezes the entire machine for minutes at a time.

I noticed this for the first time earlier in the year, shortly after Witcher 3 came out. I'm playing the game, the HDD LED on my case goes solid and the machine freezes. Sound continues to play as though the system is still running as usual. Mouse is visible after attempting CTRL + ALT + DEL but screen is black and no further keyboard input is accepted; sometimes instead of CTRL + ALT+ DEL, I can ALT + TAB to desktop, but after that initial switch no futher input from mouse or keyboard are accepted. After 2-3 minutes, the machine snaps back to its normal state and "catches up" on the input from the time when the machine was frozen - in the ALT + TAB situation, clicking on Start menu, Window Search field, Quickstart icons, etc will all execute in order.

Once this happens (usually during a game), it is guaranteed to happen again within 5-10 minutes. System continues in running-frozen-running pattern indefinitely until I exit the game.

I did see a small number of BSODs - KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and one other that I can't recall. System will not successfully write dump information to disk, even after leaving it for half a day in the hopes it would.

Whenever this happens, I can check the System log in Event Viewer and find tens if not hundreds of entries regarding the storage device. Most are in the following pattern:

Warning10/23/2015 1:35:14 AMdisk153None

The IO operation at logical block address 0x227b0708 for Disk 0 (PDO name: \Device\0000002d) was retried.

Or:

Warning10/17/2015 6:00:18 PMdisk51None

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 during a paging operation.

After a ton of those, I will come across one or more entry that says:

Warning10/23/2015 1:35:12 AMiaStorA129None

Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

As the errors point to an issue with the page file, I checked Advanced System Settings and under Virtual Memory, "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" is checked. Currently Allocated is 1024MB.

I've attempted the following software fixes:

- Installed Intel SSD Toolbox and ran Optimizer, Quick Diagnostic, and Full Diagnostic

- Installed and Uninstalled multiple versions of Intel RST software

- Installed multiple versions of standalone AHCI/RAID driver, both RST and RSTe

- Deleted all Intel RST and RSTe drivers from system

- Stopped and disabled Superfetch, Windows Search, BITS services

- Applied registry "fix" found here: Fixing an SSD Freezing on Windows 7 | IT Hacks

On the hardware side, this problem has persisted despite the following changes:

- Swapped out SATA cable that was attached (bundled with MB) for the one bundled with the drive, then a 3rd-party cable

- Two completely different sets of same speed/density memory (Crucial and PNY)

- Two completely different video cards (MSI GTX 770, PowerColor R9 390)

- Multiple power supplies

- Two completely different motherboards!

If this isn't a software/driver issue. I'm down to the drive or the CPU at this point. My machine is currently set up with the following components:

Intel Core i7-3820 (stock, never overclocked)

MSI X79A-GD45 Plus motherboard (most recent BIOS - 17.9)

4x4GB PNY Anarchy DDR3-1600

PowerColor PCS+ R9 390

Antec HCG-750

SSD 750 PCI-E & X79.

Good evening! I have a question concerning support for SSD 750 PCI-Ex motherboard chipset X79. Not so long ago I was thinking about buying this card (SATA - is not seen as outdated and resembles an echo IDE), as the current software requires a radical solution for speed and other things, but Googling forums, I realized that X79 motherboards are not included in the support this device and work as a boot device it will not be (((. The question is - the X99 chipset so different from the X79? built-in support USB3?

Frankly speaking I do not feel the need to go to the X79 X99 for a few% performance increase. What is the problem that the literary manager for chipsets only support 9* Series? It is not the desire to Intel or me (us PC users) should apply to the producers of our boards requesting the release of UEFI-BIOS with support NVMe and drives them? Or is it some kind of hardware problem?

Hi

I have a supermicro server with X10DRL-CT motherboard (C612 chipset). Two DC S3710 200gb SSD are connected to the standard S-ATA ports on the motherboard. On Centos 7.1 the Data Center Tool say no drive found. Why?

But work when I connect these SSDs to the LSI3108 controller (also on the motherboard).

Intel 750 SSD Failure on System Resume

$

0

Hi there, I recently purchased an Intel 750 SSD (2.5 inch drive, model number SSDPE2MW400G4R5) and am having some major issues with getting it to run smoothly. I originally had it as a boot drive for Windows 10 on a newly purchased Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming G1 Motherboard. Everything with the installation went smoothly. The drive was connected to the motherboard via the M.2 to U.2 Add-in-Card. My experience was fine until attempting to resume from the sleep or hibernation state on my computer. Except for a few random instances, the SSD failed to resume the system from sleep and would eventually give up and restart the system altogether. Specifically, my monitors would show nothing and have no display signal, further my mouse and keyboard would quickly disconnect (after waking the computer) and stay disconnected. However, The computer fans would turn on along with all interior lights and stay running. After auto-restarting, I would then be greeted with a blue screen of death with the error message "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". After the next restart (due to the BSOD), the system would then boot fine, usually taking me to the state where i had originally left the computer when it was slept. Attempting the hibernation state would cause the same error (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE) to appear which would then cause a restart which (after automatic windows repair at the splash screen), would load where i left off at before hibernating the computer. The ensuing hours were then dedicated to trying to find the root cause of the problem. I'll briefly summarize the actions (that I can remember) taken below:

  • Downloaded Intel SSD Toolbox and ensured all drivers were up to date.
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled intel ssd drivers along with various others such as nvidia display drivers.
  • Changed Power State options to high performance, and changed the hard drive turn off option to "never"
  • Downloaded the latest (non-beta) BIOS version for Motherboard. Specific version ID was changed from F2 to F3  (Full hardware info will be provided below)
  • Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic Test, which came back with no errors on the RAM.
  • Ran Full Diagnostic Test on SSD through Intel SSD Toolbox, which came back with no errors.
  • Re-checked for any loose connections within computer case.
  • Uninstalled various non-core programs, and closed non-critical processes before attempting to sleep. Most likely coincidental and non-repeatable, I actually did get the system to resume a few times from the sleep state doing this method. However, after restarting and closing out the same programs and processes, I could not replicate the result. A couple hours of attempts and I gave up on this path.
  • Uninstalled windows 10 altogether and reinstalled Windows 8 cleanly. The issue still persisted in the hibernation and sleep state on windows 8 as well.

At this point, I was out of ideas and decided that the best path forward was to put windows 10 on my SAMSUNG 840 EVO 500 GB to further isolate, confirm, and better diagnose the Intel 750 SSD and the drivers as the underlying issue. As a result, I disconnected all other hard drives/SSD's along with the Intel 750 SSD and installed Windows 10 on the Samsung SSD, I once again attempted the sleep and hibernation states multiple times and over several restarts after installing various programs and drivers. I did not have any issue occur once. The system resumed in roughly 7-10 seconds every time, without a problem.

I now connected all my other storage devices to my PC to once again test for problems. First of all, the Intel 750 SSD was detected and accessible under my devices and drives. I then proceeded to test the sleep state once again without issue on multiple instances. However, the total time to resume from the sleep state increased to roughly 20-30 seconds. Further, the Intel 750 SSD was now no longer detected by windows. Checking Event Viewer lists two relevant entries occurring during system resume.

  1. Error at 12:54:59 AM at Source "stornvme" (event id 11): The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort2.
  2. Warning at 12:55:04 AM at Source "disk" (event id 157): Disk 4 has been surprise removed.

At this point, I entered into Device Manager and disabled, and then re-enabled the "standard NVM Express Controller". This immediately caused windows to detect the ssd once again and fixed my issue (until the next sleep state is attempted). If anyone could provide any guidance to me on this issue it would be much appreciated. I do know that users have had similar issues with other M.2 SSD's not resuming from sleep state. One solution I've also read about is to disable link power management? However, I don't want to attempt anything else until I perhaps hear from someone with more experience on solving an issue like this. Thanks so much for reading this far, I'll provide a summary of my specs below, but please let me know anything else needed to help aid you all in solving this!

Just updated the firmware using issdfut_2.1.0.iso

Driver updated to Intel Windows NVMe driver 1.3.0.1007 x32-x64

Asus x99 deluxe mother board and is set to AHCI and is in the first port

Is was ok with toolkit 3.3.1 but after update its greyed out.

Any ideas?

Why is the Intel 750 Slow to boot?

$

Howdy Everyone. Just picked up the Intel 750 1.2TB SSD card. Installed it on my X99 Asus Rampage V board and installed Windows 7 X64 without a problem. However, I am seeing a boot performance issue. This drive is taking about 25 seconds to boot, approximately 13 seconds longer than my Samsung 850 EVO. Did a little Googling on this and apparently, I am not the only one. I have read several reviews and the ones that measure boot time / performance will say this is the slowest SSD to boot. I have provided the link below as an example.

Intel's 750 Series solid-state drive reviewed - The Tech Report - Page 5

Intel - Is this going to be fixed in a future firmware release? I wont be able to justify keeping this card if first generation SSD's still outperform in terms of booting.

Thanks,

I purchased two SSDs (DC S3500 120GB) via ebay and would appreciate

if someone could comment on the SMART values - the SSDs were supposed

to be new - I can see that they have been written to (not new), but I'm

more concerned about the other values.

I used CrystalDiskInfo as Intel SSD toolbox doesn't work

over USB - I've only got a few old pcs with PATA (I'm in the

middle of building a new server with SATA)

Intel ssd 750 series not booting on asus maximus VIII z170 chipset.

I have an Intel SSD 750 series add-in-card and I want to use as my main/boot drive.

The issue is that when I hit the power button, the mobo do not boot from the SSD, it just show the Q-CODE 41. However if I go directly to the UEFI boot menu and manually select the drive to boot from it works, windows 10 loads normally and I can use.

I searched around the mobo should support the SDD.

I have tried the following:
- Disable and enable CMS compatiblity.
- Disable and enbale secure boot.
- Install the intel NVMe drivers.
- Adjust the boot priority.
- Disable and enable fast boot.

- tried the instructions here > Getting Intel 750 SSD to install and boot Windows 7 on z170 motherboard

Is there a Bios setting I am missing for my board? Is it the OS?  Can someone please help?

Intel 3510 1.2TB - Very slow write speeds after power up / optimizer run

$
0
0

Hello,

I am testing the Intel 3510 (1.2TB) SSD to be used in a data logging application.  The average data rate requirement is 60MB /sec.

The OS (Windows XPembedded)  is installed on a Compact Flash Card.  The SSD is used for data logging only.

The test consists of the following:

1) Boot up system

2) Format SSD

3) Automatically run the intel optimizer utility from using the command line options.  (wait till completed)

4) Record Data until 90% full

5) Copy Log files to USB drive

6) Reboot the system

The data is generated at an average rate of 60MB / sec.  The writes are generally large buffers of data (5-10MB) with occasional smaller writes to a log file.

In the beginning of each test we see a period of a second or two where the data rate drops well below the typical rate.  We buffer data to try to work thru these slow periods but our system does not have enough memory to survive when the performance is this slow.

The attached charts show the typical data write speed of 100MB/sec but also the very low performance (<20MB/sec) at the start of the test.

We have used the 3700 series and various predecessors without having this problem.  Do you have any recommendations on how we might work around this issue.

Thanks!

Paul

Getting Intel 750 SSD to install and boot Windows 7 on z170 motherboard

$
0
0

All,

I created this account for the express purpose of (hopefully) making the installation process a little easier for those who may have trouble installing Windows 7 on their new Intel 750 SSD.  After going through tremendous difficulty, I figured the least I could do is to lessen the pain for someone else.

My motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7

Here are the things that I had to do to get things working.  Note that these are not necessarily in order:

1.) Have Windows 7 either on DVD or USB (using the Windows USB Installation Tool available from the Gigabyte support site).  Though Gigabyte claims that the USB installer is necessary, I found that not to be the case for me.

2.) Change the 'storage boot option control' to "UEFI only" in BIOS

3.) Change/maintain 'windows 8 features' in 'other OS' in BIOS

-steps 2 and 3 are described with pictures in the 'Boot Guide for NVMe SSD pdf file:

http://download.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/nvme_boot_guide_332098001us.pdf

4.) Have driver CD (included with SSD) on hand, or load Intel NVMe drivers (from Intel website's drivers and downloads section) onto USB.  I used the CD.

== KEY STEP THAT I MISSED AT FIRST ==

5.) Convert the Intel 750 SSD to a GPT partition (vice MBR).  I wasted so much time struggling until I figured this out.

     Here's what I did:

-Used Win 8.1 CD that I had on hand (from HTPC), and booted to that drive in UEFI mode (hit F12 to bring up boot menu).  From there, I used the built-in parstition utility:

     a. From inside Windows Setup, press Shift+F10 to open a command prompt window.

     b. Open the diskpart tool:

diskpart

Identify the drive to reformat:

list disk

Select the drive, and reformat it:

select disk <disk number> clean convert gpt exit

I'm told you can also use a Linux program (GNU Parted) to do the same thing.  I wound up with the disk being divided into 3 separate partitions.

==END STEP THAT I MISSED AT FIRST ==

6.) Once done with the GPT partitioning, boot Windows 7 in UEFI mode, and then install the necessary NVMe driver from step 4.

7.) Install Win7 into the 'primary' partition of the SSD (this was partition 3 for me).

Installation should go smoothly from there.  I was getting error after error when trying to do steps 6 and 7 without doing step 5 first.

I hope this was of some help.

Hi jonathan_intel,

I have trouble installing driver 1.3.0.1007 over the top of 1.2.1002. I get message "Fatal error during installation"

I have tried all permutations of upgrading or uninstalling 1.2.0.1002 and driver installation utility or manual driver update from device manager.

If your driver gurus will be so kind as to look at my problem I will be very grateful.

Intel 750 not showing delete support under ESXi?

Hi everyone, I've hit an unexpected issue with some new Intel 750's (1.2TB) and ESXi 6 (latest update). I have installed the latest driver as recommended (to improve the performance of the drives) and while they are working I have noticed that ESXi isn't attempting to reclaim any free space (and forcing it doesn't work). A check of the VAAI values of each drive showed the following:

VAAI Plugin Name:

ATS Status: unsupported

Clone Status: unsupported

Zero Status: unsupported

Delete Status: unsupported

While I expected ATS/Clone/Zero to be unsupported, I didn't expect to see Delete as unsupported. Using a standard SSD through an AHCI controller will show Delete as supported (as TRIM seems to get converted to DISCARD/UNMAP).

Has anyone else seen this? I'm concerned that as a result my performance is going to degrade over time as there will be a lack of proper unmapping of free space.
