900P AIC works fine but:

$
0
0

-cannot be seen in UEFI, only the sata storage a couple of hard drives and a Samsung SSD can be seen.

-The Intel Optane Storage controller is installed and works

-Windows 10 Disk Management can see it formatted it etc.,

- The 900p now has the paging file, the Windows Index and some of the Lightroom caches all function

- The relevant adapter slot had to be set from x2 to x4.

- Read speeds are about as advertised.

-SMART works through Aida64 and Optane temp is about 28C.

-Intel RST does not see a thing

-the only place Optane shows is its Device Driver in Device Manager Driver version 4.0.0.1007

The motherboard is an ASUS Rog Maximus x Hero

Is there one or several issues here

                                   - is it a wait for new firmware for M/B

                                   - is it a wait newer Rst it is the usual 15.9.0.1015

DC P4500 Wrong IOPS Numbers?

$

Hello,

We have purchased 42 Intel DC P4500 4TB NVME drives from a vendor ( Sn : SSDPE2KX040T7) . Before making the purchase we have calculated our Read/Write IOPS requirements and have checked your website about the specs of this drive. I am pretty sure that write IOPS for this drive was 62000 IOPS which is enough for our needs and we have made the purchase last week ( havent received the drives yet) . Yesterday I have checked the specs page again and see that write IOPS has been changed and lowered to 48000 IOPS!! May I ask what is going on here? 62k iops is enough for my workload but 48k iops is not.

You have given wrong numbers on this drives specs and i am having big trouble in here.

Please guide me how to proceed with this purchase. Can i return these drives and change into more write intensive drive like P4510 ??

The web page we have checked was :

Intel® SSD DC P4500 Series (4.0TB, 2.5in PCIe 3.1 x4, 3D1, TLC)

And here is the August version of that web site:

And here is the old anandtech article shows the write iops of the drive to 62000 iops.

DC P3520: Selected drive is in a disable logical state

$

Hello,

one of my P3520 seems to have gone into the infamous "Assert Mode". During an IOMeter sequential write test, the OS suddenly freezed due to what seems to be an I/O error; the window manager was still responsive, but everything that caused reads or writes to the SSD was stuck immediately. Then a reboot occured and the SSD now signals an orange light on the bottommost LED. It's not bootable but is detected by the SSD Toolkit and isdct.

isdct reports "Selected drive is in a disable logical state." on nearly every possible command. Some information can still be gathered though:

ErrorString : *ASSERT_4000BD3C  HB

Firmware : MDV10271
DriverVersion : 4.0.0.1007

...
ModelNumber : INTEL SSDPEDMX012T7
...

NumErrorLogPageEntries : 63

...

PCILinkGenSpeed : 3

PCILinkWidth : 4

I could also extract an nlog binary file, which I have attached together with the TDKI.log and the full output of show -a.

I read these disks enter a fail mode quite fast, where consumer drives wouldn't bother too much. And the firmware changelogs state a problem like entering the Assert Mode on "repeated bootups". I really don't think that the NAND is damaged at all, because the disk is fairly new and far from heavily used.

Is there any chance to get further information about the state the drive is in or how to circumvent the Assert Mode? Anything is appreciated!

Thank you in advance

Intel x25-m BSOD when running SSD Toolbox

$

Hello: I updated SSD toolbox from 1.3 or so to 3.51 and tried running it. It gave me BSOD. I uninstalled and and tried installing 3.50 and ran it. It gave the same error.

SSD toolbox was set to run every week automatically for maintenance but I ran it manually because I found my drive filled with 3GB files with titles like --=={Intel_Trim_File_0}==--.bin. Does anyone know what they are? I am getting a little frustrated and I do not begin to know how to fix this issue. Please help! Thank you.

Intel 800P/900P and over provisioning

$

I'm thinking about using either the  Intel 800P or the 900P with Linux and ZFS.

ZFS requires SSD's for both caching (read cache - L2ARC) and SLOG (which is being used by ZIL - you can read about it here).

According to various reviews (and maybe Intel marketing department should take note) - the Intel 900P is the "king" of performance for ZFS, specially if you're planning to setup a ZFS with lots 10Gbit connections and tons of write commands.

One thing is unknown, however...

On any SSD which will be used by SLOG (and have a PLP - Power Loss Protection, in order to have synchronous wiriting) - it is recommended to use Over provision and basically not to create partitions that will use the entire SSD, so if the SSD for example is 250GB size, create partitions up to 220GB and leave the rest for OP.

Since both the 800P and 900P are not using standard NAND and they use 3D XPoint - what is the recommendation? can I create full partitions or should I create just like as NAND SSD?

Thanks

120G 540S SSD corrupted, but Smart ID5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct and 232 Available_Reservd_Space always 0

Hi,

My SSD's life seems end, I used it in Ubuntu and monitored its status by smartctl command, once I found the files could not be written on it, I thought its life was end and also used the Toolbox to confirm.

But during its lifetime, I found that some smart attributes that could indicate a SSD's failure were always 0, that's weird.

I googled a lot and found many people got these values, and people said these values are really crucial.  Are these values available in 540S?  Screenshots here:

The app was working well at first and suddenly became like this after months.

When I was using Win7, few years ago, the same thing happened after I updated the app to the latest version. But I fixed it by reinstalling the old version.

Unfortunately, nothing changes this time. No matter I reinstall the new version or the old one.

I think this might be caused by the windows update as I haven't install anything during last 6 months.

But I don't know how to fix it, could anyone help me?

S3610 vs S4600

Hi to all.

I've seen that a new SSD model was released: S4600.

Is this the proper replacement model for S3610 ? Is S3610 dismissed ?

If I saw properly, these two models doesn't have the same specs, endurance for S4600 is a little bit lower (a little bit less than 3DWPD),

write speeds seems to be higher and read speed lower.

Am I missing something ?

As we have a bounch of S3610, should I buy and replace them with S4600 when needed ?

would be possible to know the exact blocks number for both model (480gb) ? In other words, would be possible to replace a S3610 with a S4600 in the same RAID array ? (blocks must be the same)

Intel SSD 540s M.2 SSD Toolbox Reports Diagnostic Error

$

My Intel SSD 540s M.2 hard drive will not pass the "Read Scan" on the diagnostic scan in the Intel Solid-State Drive Toolbox v3.5.2.  The computer has some strange issues going on in the last couple of weeks or so so I started investigating hardware issues.  If I open Windows Explorer and type something in the search box the computer may or may not keep functioning.  When the system fails (after about a minute) the computer will say that the Intel 540s drive "D" drive is no longer accessible and the system becomes unstable.  Now my system is a little different.  The machine, an Intel NUC6i7KYK, is built with a smaller 500GB Samsung 950Pro NVMe drive for "C" drive and the Windows installation, and a second SSD, my Intel 540S 1TB drive is "D" drive and the "Users" directory is moved there.  The Intel drive has all my data stored on it and the Samsung (high speed drive) runs the system.  This configuration was done as windows was installed via a sysprep XML file and Audit mode and has worked perfectly for some time (about 2 years).  The Intel drive toolbox showed the firmware for my 540S drive was old (LSBG100), so I used Firmware Update Tool v3.0.1 to update the firmware (LSF042C).  The update was successful and the machine seems to work OK but the Toolbox Quick Diagnostic Scan fails the read scan with "Error: An error was detected reading data from the selected Intel SSD. Contact your reseller or local Intel representative for assistance."  The Data Integrity test passes 100%.  I haven't done the full diagnostic test.  I don't know if this is a driver issue or not but my drivers were the latest drivers from the Intel support site but I have now switched "Device Installation Settings" from blocking Microsoft from updating drivers to now allowing Microsoft to update the drivers.  So I don't know if they've been adjusted through Windows update.  This is a scary issue when 900GB of your PC data suddenly fails (I have a backup).

Data migration software problem (destination SSD greyed out)

$

Hello,

I've purchased an Intel 545s 256GB SSD (SSDSC2KW256G8X1), but so far, I haven't managed to migrate from my current HDD to the new SSD using the Intel Data Migration Software.

The current HDD is 160GB and the 545s is 240GB, so there are no size issues.

When I select the Source Disk, everything is still normal:

18-04-2018_2221.jpg

At the next step, both disks are greyed out and unselectable. View screenshot:

18-04-2018_2222.jpg

This happens when I run the software from the HDD and also from a bootable CD created by the Data Migration Software.

It happens using:

USB-to-SATA interface cable

SATA-to-SATA cable

From this Acronis support page, I understand that it's a known problem: https://kb.acronis.com/content/45619

In my case, the HDD's (Disk 1) physical sector size is 512 and the SSD's (Disk 2) is 4096. View the Acronis System Report:

18-04-2018_2241.jpg

Acronis Support's solution is: Select another disk as target. Both source and target disks should have identical sector size.

I don't know how to accomplish this using the Intel Data Migration Software. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Fritzz

My Intel 545s seems to begin breaking

$

I bought my Intel 545s SSD half a year ago, and attached to my laptop.

While I use my laptop with 545s, the number of "Program Fail Count" keeps increasing. It reached 000000000015 recently.

In addition, the number of "Power On Hours" seems not  to be increasing. I think it must be at least 500 hours.

Is it safe to continue using this SSD?

545s is my first SSD and I 'm not so familiar with it. Please give me some advice.

Intel SSD not recognised by Intel Firmware updater, or Ubuntu Live USB, or CentOS boot USB

$

Hi,

I formatted an Intel SSD (details below) and now it's not recognised by the Intel firmware updater or linux boot USBs. Before the BIOS opens, the screen shows:

NVMe detected      Intel SSDPEKKW512G7X1

but it doesn't show up in the bootable options. Booting from a USB does not recognise the SSD. Ubuntu Live USB can boot, but only in terminal mode. This eventually gives the error: "nvme nvme0 identify controller failed (-4)". 'fdisk -l' does not show the SSD.

The SSD is connected directly to the motherboard, was working before the formatting, and is:

Intel 600p 512GB 80mm PCIE 3.0 X4 M.2 SSD

SSDPEKKW512G7X1

Is there anything I can do to use it again? Any advice is appreciated, cheers.

(First I would like to confirm that it is a single SSD affected there are no other drives connected, and I have confirmed it is connected correctly to the motherboard. I got the firmware updater from Download Intel® SSD Firmware Update Tool  and flashed this onto a formatted USB disk with FAT32 filesystem. The firmware updater does boot, but after agreeing to the legal agreement, it informs me that there are no Intel drives detected and directs me to remove the drive and shutdown. I am using UEFI for 'storage' in the BIOS. The BIOS does show the drive under the NVMe Configuration advanced options, but selecting this drive shows a blank screen i.e. no available options.)

Hello, I'm having a problem with the NVMe 4.0.0.1007 driver for the Intel SSD 760p 256gb drive. When you install it, the SpeedFan program stops (it hangs when you access the SSD). However, the standard Windows 10 driver for SSD NVM Express does not cause problems but limits the performance of the SSD drive. Is it possible to solve the problem?

When migrating to an ssd drive will the migration software also copy the Lenovo d: drive partition?

Why does "fio write" change the performance of "fio read"

I have a P4600 2TB NVMe SSD. Right after I used Intel SSD toolbox to secure erase it, fio reports 4kB random read at 809K IOPS.

sudo fio --name=dummy --size=10G --filename=/dev/nvme0n1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=1 --rw=randread -bs=4k** --iodepth=64 --numjobs=4 --group_reporting

However, after I tried to pre-conditioning the SSD with the following write command

sudo fio --name=dummy --size=2000G --filename=/dev/nvme0n1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=1 --rw=write -bs=4k** --iodepth=64 --numjobs=1 --group_reporting  (I also tried --size=1700G, the result is the same)

the randread command above is now reporting 4kB at 520k IOPS.

So why such a severe drop?
