Intel SSD 530 NAND Write Problem

Hello, everyone:

I bought an Intel SSD 530 120G for my laptop several days ago. It worked well with the OS Win8.1 Pro x64.

When I paid attention to the NAND writes, something make me confused.

The situation is as follow:

The SSD with the OS is the first(primary) Disk, and the HDD is the second one. I have moved the cache of IE, chrome and Firefox to the Hard Drive using IE setting or mklink command, and verified it correctly. With the explorer working, the written data stream from cache is produced in the HDD partition theoretically, also I have got this conclusion through the System's Resource Monitor and the Diskmon from Microsoft website. When I cached several Movies embedded in any explorer without other operation separately, there are lots of written data traffic produced in the HDD partition, and just little data wrote in system disk(SSD), it’s no doubt. Finally, each test(using one kind of explorer) improved less than 200Mb in Total Host Writes which is normal for system operating, but this process also consumed about 3Gb SSD's Total NAND writes in total in the CrystalDiskInfo 6.0.1. Also I have got the same result with the newly Intel SSD Toolbox, AIDA64 3.20 and CrystalDiskInfo 6.0.1. In fact, this written data traffic produced by explorer's cache in HDD is calculated into the SSD's total NAND writes.

Actually I'm not care of the SSD's wear, and I'm sure it couldn't reach the limited lifespan with normal usage until next generation product arrives. This accidental discovery confused me now, and the result above make me suspect the theory, Putting IE/Chrome or System cache into other medium/drive saving your SSD's wear.

Q:Here, I want to know what makes this strange condition happen, the drivers, system's bug, bad support for old mainboard, the system's setting&config or the special system log?

Testing condition:

Thinkpad R400(GM45 motherboard)/P8700/8Gb RAM/Intel 530 SSD+Hitachi 7k500/Intel 5300 AGN/Win 8.1 Pro X64 with the Win 8.1's Default config and drivers, except trunning the service Superfetch off mannually.

I could make sure the location of explorer cache(IE, Chrome, Firefox) in HDD, also the written data traffic in HDD, and the vast imprived NAND writes in SSD simultaneously.

Thanks for your help.

Intel 750 activity led (pcie)

Hi guys,
I'm having some issues with the 750 ssd and the hdd activity led on my case. For some reason there is NO activity led, though the system works just fine with no crushes, errors,  etc. By "No activity led" I mean, it just semi blinks for one or two times during boot and never blinks again, whatever I do (games, installing apps, running intel optimizer, etc). Have tried all the usual and possible things to check but no luck. *The led on my case works fine for the record.
My specs are :

Asus Rampage V Extreme/ 3.1 usb revision
Intel core i7 5820K @ 3,6Ghz
Corsair dominator 16GB DDR4 @ 3000Mhz

Intel 750 ssd (pcie version, Connected on PCI e 3.0 x8, so works x4) **Latest Firmware with Toolbox 3.3.1/ latest driver 1.2.0.1002
MSI 290x Lighting
Running Windows 10 Pro x64 fully updated (no option here )

Tried both with CSM on and off, no difference

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Intel 750 not showing delete support under ESXi?

Hi everyone, I've hit an unexpected issue with some new Intel 750's (1.2TB) and ESXi 6 (latest update). I have installed the latest driver as recommended (to improve the performance of the drives) and while they are working I have noticed that ESXi isn't attempting to reclaim any free space (and forcing it doesn't work). A check of the VAAI values of each drive showed the following:

VAAI Plugin Name:

ATS Status: unsupported

Clone Status: unsupported

Zero Status: unsupported

Delete Status: unsupported

While I expected ATS/Clone/Zero to be unsupported, I didn't expect to see Delete as unsupported. Using a standard SSD through an AHCI controller will show Delete as supported (as TRIM seems to get converted to DISCARD/UNMAP).

Has anyone else seen this? I'm concerned that as a result my performance is going to degrade over time as there will be a lack of proper unmapping of free space.

750 series SSD performance on CPU, or PCH PCI-E

Where can I find more data comparing  the performance of an Intel 750 series ssd (1.2TB HHHL) operating on native PCI-E lanes from the CPU vs PCH supplied lanes. I'll be using a 6700K on a Z170 chipset motherboard. I am trying to determine the penalties caused by the DMI bottleneck, and if it warrants the upgrade to an X99 board.

verifying optimal performance 750 ssd

So I've got a 400gb 750 HHHL ssd installed, finally got it to boot with a fresh install of Win7 64bit (GPT).

Benchmarks are coming out reasonably well, but real world performance has seen some indicators that it might not be configured correctl - Windows takes over a minute to boot up and VideoStudio X7 takes 6-7 sec to open, etc.

Using the intel ssd toolbox I've updated the 750 firmware, and downloaded and installed intel's NVMe drivers for win 7.

What am I looking for to verify that it is configured correctly and getting optimal performance?

System:

I've been looking all over, but I can't find any definitive proof that they are compatible. Supposedly, the predecessor VII GENE is compatible, but Intel has not (to my knowledge) updated their compatibility list for Z170 chipset motherboards.

Intel 750 and HDD Activity LED

$

I installed Windows 10 onto my Intel 750 400GB(SSDPE2MW400G4R5-2.5" SSD version) last night and everything seemed fine but then this morning I

noticed that the HDD activity LED was on all the time.  After spending about 4 hours on the problem I figured out that the LED works fine on other hard

drives but when I plug in the 750 the LED it appears that it reverses itself(on for no activity and off for activity).  I tried messing with the LED connectors

on the motherboard and at the front panel but nothing works.

I used to have the AHCI version of the Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 SSD in the slot and the HDD activity LED functioned correctly.

Except for that the 750 works just fine.

For the record, my setup;

Asus X99 Deluxe with most current bios

32GB Crucial Sport Ballistix DIMMs

1TB Seagate HD

Intel 750 400GB 2.5" SSD with most current firmware

Nvidia GeForce Titan graphics card

Asus Hyper Kit NVMe adapter

Is this a problem that will be fixed with future firmware or should I just return it and hope the replacement doesn't do the same thing?

S3610 SSDs have failed "READ/WRITE FPDMA QUEUED" ATA commands, frozen, then link reset

Hi,

I have a new Linux machine with two DC S3610 1.6TB SSDs. It's Debian jessie so kernel 3.6.17. Since around one month after installation these errors started appearing:

Jul 30 16:30:59 snaps kernel: [186914.249429] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x3 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen

Jul 30 16:31:00 snaps kernel: [186914.578316] ata1: EH complete

The error is always the same, and the only thing on ata1.00 is one of the SSDs. I switched the two SSDs around and the problem followed the same SSD.

I can't force the error to happen on demand, it just seems to happen every other day or so, though not at the same time of day. All IO is held up briefly while the link is reset. The drive passes a SMART long self-test.

So is this drive faulty? If not, what can I try to fix this? If so, is there an easy way to prove it for RMA purposes?

Hey guys! How is your shopping season going there for those who are in US?

I have bought Intel 535 240GB to upgrade from Intel 330i 120GB and I don't know how migration should be done.

When I migrated from HDD to Intel 330i I used bundled Acronis migration tool to do that but now how will it be different?

Thanks

Intel SSD 535 240GB after data migration from HDD with dual partition (with OS (C:) and HP Backup (E:) ) HP dv9420us laptop can not find operating system. Why? This laptop has dual 120GB HDD.

I have an Intel SSD 535 240GB which after data migration from a 120GB  HDD with dual partition (with OS (C:) and HP Backup (E:) ) were the HP dv9420us laptop can not find the operating system. This laptop has dual 120GB HDD. The primary HDD has no free space. The secondary HDD is the D: drive. So, why does the new 240MB SSD, when installed after running the Intel data migration software fail to boot the Vista operating system?

Hello Guys

i am deciding to buy the intel 750 pcie ssd and i was wondering if i can get the full speeds of the ssd or not.you can find my pc specs below;

CPU : intel 3930k 40 Pci Lanes

mobo : Evga X79 Dark

as you know 3930k is not officially support the gen 3.0 but my mobo Evga X79 Dark has Pcie gen 3.0 slots .So what will happen if i place my intel 750 ssd into one of the pcie gen 3.0 slots?is it going to run in gen 3.0 standarts or gen 2.0 standarts?

i am a little bit confused about that.I mean , is the ssd going to work as gen 3.0 even if the cpu officialy doesnt support pcie 3.0 ? or is it just going to need x4 available pci lanes in CPU?

or is it just going to take attention the slot that it has been running in?

Kind Regards
